Things to do in Izmir, Turkey

When staying in Izmir properties, there are a huge number of important sites to explore from the landmark clock tower in Konak Square to the ancient market place of Agora. There are many fantastic tour routes through the city, and whether you end up walking along the course of the three Roman aqueducts, exploring the Beth Israel Synagogue or climbing to the imposing Kadifekale castle, you will be amazed at every turn. Izmir, Turkey is located on a long, thin stretch of water on the Aegean Coast called the Izmir Gulf. The harbour here is the second largest in Turkey, and there are some fantastic boat trips available, taking you to some of the most beautiful and interesting spots along the Turkish Aegean Coast.

The spa centres and hot springs are of huge appeal to those staying in Izmir properties. The most famous spa in Izmir is the Cesme Hot Springs, where the water, rich in minerals, erupts from the earth at around 58˚C. The water is supposed to have some remarkable healing properties, used for the treatment of a huge range of ailments.

The Izmir Bird Sanctuary, found in Camalti, is a fantastic place to head from Izmir properties, and is home to an amazing array of bird species. Flamingos and pelicans can often be seen in the park, and there are some magnificent walking routes to take. When leaving the city, a visit to one of the sensational beaches that line Turkey’s Aegean Coast. There are plenty to choose from, and there can be nowhere nicer to enjoy the afternoon sun than from a glorious beach next to the clean, warm waters of the sea.

Weather in Izmir, Turkey

Izmir has a remarkable climate, which sees temperatures soaring in June, resulting in monthly average temperatures of over 30˚C from June until September. The spring and autumn months are possibly the best time to explore the city and all its many attractions as the heat is far less relentless, meaning that you do not always have one eye on the beach! Rain in common in December, but temperatures during the day remain very mild, usually hovering around the 10˚C mark.
