Koh Phangan lies on the eastern side of Thailand, and therefore has monsoon season from September to December. Holidaying during this time is not recommended, as the rain is essentially constant, and flooding can make the terrain dangerous. During the dry and cool season, in the earliest part of the calendar year, temperatures in Thailand range from 18 to 32°C.
Travel to Koh Phangan is best conducted by plane and ferry. Visitors can fly into the nearby island of Samui Airport (USM) and take the ferry to the island. The San Chao Road leads from the ferry harbour in the northeast to the centre of the island. Roads are clearly signposted for the towns they lead to, most of which lie along the beachfront on Koh Phangan.
