Just outside the town is the atmospheric Chapelle de Vorbourg, a pilgrimage site of monks situated on a forested crag beneath the ruins of a medieval castle. Saignelégier is the main town in the Jura region but is little more than a village itself. It has a railway station where bikes are available for hire, making it an easy day out. Head for the idyllic Etang de la Gruère lake or the Doubs Valley for some excellent walks. Porrentruy, close to the french border has a lovely old town centre with cobbled streets, fountains and many 18th century buildings. It also has a 14th century bridge and an impressive chateau.
