This is an area in the south of the country that provides natural beauty and year round activities. In the winter the 4 Valleys of Verbier, Siviez, Thyon and Veysonnaz offer great conditions for skiers of all levels. Visitors will find many interesting places to visit in the 4 Valleys region including historic buildings and museums. One such place is the city of Sion, which is not far to drive and has many historic buildings and places of national significance. For example holidaymakers should visit Notre-Dame Cathedral, Majorie Castle and the church of Notre-Dame de Valere. There are some fine museums here too such as the Cantonal Fine Arts and History Museums. A two hour drive takes visitors to Geneva, which features museums, magnificent architecture and the fabulous Lake Geneva.
The warmest months in this region are July and August with an average maximum high temperature of 19 degrees centigrade. Between December and February the temperatures can drop to as low as -8 degrees centigrade with plenty of snowfall to please skiers. Rainfall is spread quite evenly throughout the year with around 50 to 60mm falling each month on average.
Geneva International Airport (GVA) is approximately two hours and 15 minutes from the 4 Valleys. Flights arrive here from many airports across the world. Easyjet operates the most flights including from Amsterdam (AMS), Berlin-Schonefeld (SXF), Brussels (BRU), Lisbon (LIS), London-Gatwick (LGW), Madrid (MAD), Paris-Orly (ORY), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and Stockholm-Arlanda (ARN) as well as many others. Car hire firms such as Alamo, Avis, Budget Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt are all represented at the airport, with desks in the Arrivals level.
