Tamariu lies in a stunning little bay on the Costa Brava, Spain. Flanked by forest carpeted headlands, Tamariu is idyllic to look at, forming a quiet crescent shape around the back of a golden Mediterranean beach, and there are many tourists who return year after year to succumb to the village’s huge charm. The village is a family favourite; small and safe enough to allow your children to really enjoy their holiday, and picturesque and atmospheric enough to allow wonderful evenings over a glass of wine, taking in the astonishing scenery.
Tamariu is one of the prettiest resorts in Spain, with the huddle of whitewashed buildings nestled between the golden sands of the beach and the lush green woodlands that grow up the sandstone headlands on either side. Of course it is the beach that primarily attracts tourists to Tamariu accommodation, but the endless charm of the resort is enough to ensure that you need not look anywhere else for a Spanish beach holiday. This is not a beach resort where the nightlife is as important as the beach, but one where the gloriously clear, warm waters of the Mediterranean take top priority. Hidden far from the beaten tourist track and the network of tourist bus routes, you really can find a little haven of tranquillity on the Costa Brava, one where you can walk from your holiday rental to the beach in moments; you can find it with a self catering Tamariu holiday villa.
The sea is wonderfully clear around Tamariu, with the waters taking a turquoise hue as the sun shines. There are many water sports to enjoy, especially swimming and snorkelling just off shore. Sailing is great fun from Tamariu, and there is plenty to discover along this rugged, natural stretch of the Costa Brava, especially the beaches towards Cap Begur. Wind surfing, water skiing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving holidays are also top activities to enjoy from a Tamariu villa. There are a number of scuba diving centres along the coast, and you can even hire boats for your own exploration.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy inland from Tamariu too. Walking and horse riding holidays are particularly popular along the undulating coastal paths, especially as many paths take you along to isolated beaches and largely inaccessible little bays. There is also an excellent golf course located just five minutes from the centre of Tamariu, as well as another 6 world class golf courses within 15 minutes drive of a holiday rental property in Tamariu, Spain.
Leaving Tamariu once you settle in is very hard, but for those willing to break from the charm and tranquillity for a few hours must make the trip to the hill top town of Begur. The beautiful medieval architecture of Begur makes it a tourist favourite on its own, but when combined with its beautiful location, restaurant filled shopping streets and local golf courses, it is little wonder that Begur has risen to such global levels of recognition.
Like much of the Costa Brava, Tamariu is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine every year. Summers seem impossibly long, with daily temperatures breaking the 30˚C mark on the majority of day from the start of June until the end of April. July and August are the hottest months, when dragging yourself away from the beach can seem like an impossible task between sunrise and sunset.
The nearest airport to a holiday rental apartment or villa in Tamariu is Girona Airport (GRO), just 35km away. Despite its size, the tiny Girona Airport has a fantastic range of flights from the UK, provided mainly by Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines and ThomsonFly.
