The town name translates as ‘carved stone’, and most of the buildings in the area are indeed made from stone carved out of the nearby moat, which once acted as the town’s fortifications. With a number of other interesting structures to be discovered along its winding streets, a holiday in Peratallada has a slightly different appeal to that of many other Costa Brava destinations.
