The castle is an excellent place to start your exploration of the old town, which juts out into the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
However, it is the beaches which really cause a stir with visitors. There are many miles of uninterrupted sand running away to the north of the town for 7km, much of which is lined with a smart new promenade. To the south of a Peniscola villa there is a further 1km of pristine, blue flag beach to enjoy. There will never be a problem finding a good spot on the beach on which to place your towel, and trips out into the Mediterranean are easily arranged from the harbour. Summers are wonderfully long in Peniscola.
