The Middle Segura Valley and Murcia area is located in south eastern Spain, inland from the beautiful coast and beaches of the Costa Calida, and following the valley formed by the Segura River. Murcia itself is an attractive riverside city, whilst mountains, golf courses and smaller towns and villages give this area its appeal. A large variety of Middle Segura Valley and Murcia villas, holiday homes and apartments are available, and visitors are bound to find something to suit their tastes, whether looking for city or rural retreats.
This area makes an excellent holiday destination because there is a great variety of attractions within a relatively small area. Murcia is quite a large and historic city, founded in the year 831, and has a range of historical attractions including numerous Baroque style churches and its very impressive Baroque cathedral. Other sites include the Old Bridge, the town hall and the casino, though visitors could easily spend a day away from their Middle Segura Valley or Murcia villa or apartment, exploring all that the city has to offer.
In the picturesque mountains surrounding the city of Murcia there are small towns and villages, some with great self catering accommodation, and each with their own appeal. The mountainsides themselves have beautiful pine forests, ideal for walking and hiking. The region also has golf courses, and the coast is never too far away to enjoy the beaches of the Costa Calida.
The Costa Calida is a popular destination which has over 150 miles of beaches to enjoy, including the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest salt lagoon, where you can participate in all manner of water sports. To the south west of this is the attractive coastal city of Cartagena whose attractions include Roman ruins. From your Middle Segura Valley and Murcia villa or apartment you can also enjoy the natural attractions of the Carrasco and El Valle Regional Park and the Sierra Espuna Natural Park which are both nearby.
This region has a mainly Mediterranean climate though despite its short distance from the coast can have more extremes of weather throughout the year. Summers are warm, but can get very hot at times. Winters are mild on the whole, averaging with a daytime high of 16C, which makes holiday accommodation here appealing at all times of the year. Only occasionally are there frosts in the winter.
To reach your Middle Segura Valley and Murcia villa or apartment the closest airport is the Murcia-San Javier Airport, 28 miles south of Murcia. Flights from across Europe land here though many visitors to this area prefer the choice for flights to Alicante International Airport, about an hour’s drive to the north.
