Majorca Holiday Lettings

Majorca is a holiday destination that instantly brings sun, sea and sand to mind and at HomeAway you’ll be able to narrow down your search to find the perfect villa in Majorca that is tailored to your specifications. Of course, excellent beaches will always be close by, but there are also attractive old towns like Soller and impressive mountain scenery to experience. You might be on the hunt for one of our more elegant Majorca holiday lettings on the upmarket north side of the island, or an apartment next to the beach in Porto Cristo or Cala d’Or to the east. You’ll want to spend as much time as possible enjoying the beautiful weather, so you might like to choose a villas that includes a pool, garden or outdoor barbecue area.

Things to do

  • The Capital, Palma – If you are holidaying in Majorca, you should plan a day trip to the island’s capital, which is a fascinating city, with interesting historical and cultural attractions, diverse cuisine and great shopping. There’s a stunning medieval cathedral and a historical quarter that boasts the stunning Arab Baths, which date back to the 1100s. If you are interested in staying in this fantastic city, we also offer a good selection of apartments in Palma de Majorca.
  • Food and drink in Majorca - Majorca is an island with excellent local produce and a wine culture dating back to Roman times; there are a number of wineries inland offering guided tours and tasting sessions. Some specialties we would recommend you sample during your holiday are: Ensaimada, sweet pastries, and Sobrassada; a cured sausage.
  • Beaches in Majorca - Majorca’s coast features some incredible beaches. The west and north is mostly rocky with craggy coves like the spectacular Cala Llamp in Port d’Andratx, while the south and east coasts feature long stretches of pale sand and clear waters. Although most of the beaches get busy, it is still possible to track down secluded beaches in remote locations in the summer months.
  • Hiking in Majorca - Majorca’s rugged north provides some beautiful landscapes, covered with pine forest, citrus and olive groves and can be explored via a number of hiking routes. There are formidable trails guiding you through the Serra de Tramuntana or less challenging walks via the beautiful almond groves around Sóller in the winter.
  • Golfing - Across a small area, Majorca offers 18 full-sized public courses, making it one of the best destinations for the sport in Europe. They are clustered mostly towards the north east and south west of the island, with four to be found near Arta and six close to the town of Andratx; there’s also a nine-hole course at Manacor.

Weather in Majorca

Located in the Mediterranean, Majorca has a climate typical for the region. Summers are long, warm and dry, with daily highs getting up to around 30 degrees in June, July and August. Arrive in Majorca in spring or autumn and you’ll find a mix of moderately warm and mild weather – average highs still reach the low-20s in late April and early November. Winter conditions are mild, with highs in the mid-teens, but this is also when most of the annual rainfall occurs and storms are common at the start of the season, in October and November.

Travelling to Majorca

Driving is the most convenient way to get around the island and to reach your Majorca self catering accommodation. The motorways converge around Palma to the south west and branch off towards towns such as Inca and Manacor to the east and Andratx to the west. Away from the main roads, which connect all other towns, the remainder of the island is covered by a network of lanes, which tend to be quiet and ideal for cycling. There are three train lines on the island and a metro system with nine stops in Palma. The island’s international airport is minutes east of Palma (PMI).
