Make a holiday villa in Formentor your home away from home

Formentor is a stunning little coastal community, situated near the larger centre of Pollensa on the far northern tip of Majorca. Whilst the region is quite remote compared to other holiday locations on the island, it still attracts its fair share of tourists, and offers all of the conveniences and amenities you would find elsewhere. Formentor holiday villas are consequently the perfect place for a getaway; allowing you to mix privacy and tranquillity with action and adventure. HomeAway offers a selection of holiday villas in Formentor for families and couples for a lovely Mediterranean experience.

Things to do in Formentor

Although Formentor may be a small community, its proximity to larger centres such as Pollensa and Alcudia, in addition to the amazing landscape and wildlife in the area, mean that you’ll never be at a loss for things to see and do. As with many of the smaller townships however, having your own transportation while staying in holiday accommodation in Formentor is definitely an advantage.

-Going to the beach is a definite must if you’re staying in a Formentor holiday villa, as Formentor beach is practically on your doorstep. If you’re looking for something a little different however, Cala Formentor beach, located just 7 kilometres from Formentor is a pristine sandy blue flag beach, which tends to attract the rich and famous. Whilst you’re waiting for a star sighting , you may also enjoy swimming, snorkelling, jet skiing, or perhaps just working on your tan.

-Hiking is a fantastic way to spend your holiday in Formentor, as the regions hiking trails provide some of the best scenery on Majorca. One of the most popular (and often crowded) areas to go hiking is the Cap der Formentor, which plays host to numerous hiking paths, including one that winds its way up to the Cap der Formentor Lighthouse, which is one of the most famous buildings on the island, sitting an impressive 260 metres above the sea below. Take care driving to the Cap der Formentor however, as the road is extremely narrow and winding.

-Paintball is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of holiday activities on Majorca. Paintball Fantasy in Sa Pobla however, is a fantastic way to keep your children (or spouse) occupied for a few hours, and is conveniently located a mere 20 kilometres from Formentor. As this paintball centre is the only one in the area it is imperative to book in advance to avoid missing out, but beware, paintball can be addictive!

-Bird watchingis without question one of the main attractions in and around Formentor, with a plethora of different avian species calling the region home. The Cap de Formentor is a great place to start your bird watching adventure, owing to the numerous sea cliff viewing points, which allow you to observe some magnificent species including the majestic breeding colony of Eleonora´s Falcons. If you don’t have your own transportation you need not worry however, as the superfluity of forest birds around your Formentor holiday villa are bound to keep you busy for the duration of your holiday.

-The Dionis Bennassar Museum House located in Pollensa, roughly 10 kilometres from Formentor, is a great place to visit if you’re interested in art, as the permanent collection includes sculptures, oil and watercolour paintings, books and drawings. The museum also hosts exhibits from various contemporary artists, in addition to art courses, seminars and sometimes even concerts.

The weather in Formentor

The most popular time to visit Formentor is between May and November, owing mainly to the perfect sunny 19°C to 30°C beach weather on offer during this time. The winter months do however; have their own charm, as the tourist hoards that generally crowd the beaches leave the island and Formentor returns to its old-world Spanish roots. You may also find that travelling during the winter months will allow you to secure a great deal on your accommodation.

Getting to Formentor

Although Formentor is located on the opposite side of the island to Majorca’s solitary international airport in Palma, it is relatively simple to reach by shuttle bus, public bus, taxi or hire car. Regardless of how you choose to cover the distance from the airport however, you are guaranteed to be drinking wine by the pool of your Formentor holiday villa before you know it.
