Things to do
-Beaches. There are four superb beaches to visit in the Deltebre area, and they’re known for being long and largely free of development. Riumar is more than a kilometre in length, and has a scattering of beach bars, while Bassa de l’Arena is three times as long, backed by farmland and remains quiet even at the height of summer.
-Wetlands. The Ebro River delta is home to the most important wetlands in Catalonia, and the second largest on the entire Iberian Peninsula. It’s famous for its vibrant birdlife, with more than 350 different species, which can be observed from hides throughout the Ebro Delta Natural Park. Guided walks are also available to help you get more out of your visit.
-Cuisine. Visiting an apartment in Deltebre you’ll be in an area know for its distinctive rice, which is cultivated for miles around. It’s also famed for the high quality of its seafood, especially mussels. This means that the local seafood rice dishes, such as paella, are some of the best you can find anywhere in Spain.
-Mountain scenery. If you’d like to get away from the coast then a half-hour drive inland will take you to some beautiful mountain landscapes, with plenty of options for scenic walks and bike rides. The Els Ports Natural Park is especially attractive. You might also follow the course of the Ebro River inland, visiting picturesque towns like Batea.
-Day trips. Staying on the coast, if you head north you’ll encounter some beautiful beaches and resorts along the Costa Dorada. About 45 minutes away is Tarragona, known for its impressive Roman history, which includes defensive walls, an amphitheatre and a preserved forum. Much closer is L’Ampolla, which features beautiful golden sandy beaches
