24km inland from the province capital of Malaga, Casabermeja is a small town in a unique position; being encircled by a number of different mountain ranges, which gives it the appearance that you are far further removed from the beaches and nightlife of the Costa del Sol than you really are. The result of this is a rural holiday destination set amongst stunning and unspoilt scenery, but one that is also just a short drive away from the heart of the action and the bright lights of the big city of Malaga.
Casabermeja is a peaceful town located in the heart of the Andalucian countryside. Casabermeja property is typical of the area; whitewashed buildings that are perched on narrow, winding streets, and some of the town’s best self-catering accommodation is found in these such houses. Villas located on the outskirts of the town are another accommodation option, and these often provide views out over the nearby mountains. Hikers are walkers head to this area of Spain to spend days in these mountain ranges of El Torcal, Los Camorolos and Cabras, with plenty of trails to choose from.
The town centre itself dates back to pre-historic times, and the locals (known as Bermejos) are fiercely proud of their heritage. You can expect a friendly welcome, however, especially in the town’s cafe-bars and restaurants, where paella, tapas, callos (pigs’ trotter and snouts) and seafood is the order of the day. For something a little bit different try Malaga-style mushrooms followed by omelette with black pudding in Restaurante Casabermeja on Autovia Malaga-Madrid.
The Casabermeja flamenco festival is one of the highlights of the local calendar, and hugely popular with both locals and tourists alike. It is one of a number of celebrations and festivals in the town, with others including the Fiesta de Las Cruces (Crosses) in May, and a June celebration which sees the houses in Casabermeja decorated in flowers. A visit at any of these times of the year will further add to the value of your holiday in the region, and is highly recommended.

A trip to Malaga is almost compulsory, and then you have the option of heading either west along the coast to the popular tourist spots such as Torremolinos (49km) and Benalmadena (38km), or east to attractive towns such as Torrox (68km) and Nerja (74km). There is much more to see and do depending on your interests.
