In the winter visitors can take to the ski slopes with one Kavecany resort located about six kilometres from Kosice, the largest city in East Slovakia.
There are a number of good golf courses in East Slovakia especially in and around Kosice. This is a good place to visit for culture with theatres showing opera, ballet and other forms of entertainment. Fishing is very popular in the country with many rivers and lakes in the south-east ideal for coarse fishing.

The city also boasts a zoo, botanical garden and the Slovak National Museum. Bratislava is an ideal base for tourists wishing to visit Vienna on a tight budget, with access to the Austrian capital city available by car, bus, train or river in just one hour.
Weather in East Slovakia
The warmest time of the year to visit East Slovakia is generally July and August when the average high temperature is approximately 26 degrees centigrade. December to February is the coldest time of year with temperatures often falling to zero degrees centigrade and lower in some areas. Ironically July and August can also be the wettest months of the year with an average of about 100 millimetres in each of the two months.
Travel to East Slovakia
Kosice Airport in East Slovakia is about six kilometres from the city centre, and has cheap flights with SkyEurope to Bratislava, Amsterdam, Prague and Rome. There is a car rental company situated at the airport as well as taxis located outside the building. The main train station in Kosice has direct daily connections to Bratislava, Budapest, Kiev, Krakow and Prague. Ryanair has flights to Bratislava Airport in the west of Slovakia from several other European cities such as Brussels, Dublin, Edinburgh, London-Stansted, Milan, Paris, Rome and Stockholm.
