Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal and has undergone a revival of sorts in the past few decades. Today it is a vibrant destination, attracting tourists from all over the world. It has a friendly and charming character, making it a favourite among holiday makers. Lisbon is divided into several parishes or areas. Some parishes in Lisbon are Campo Grande, Belem, Alfama, and Santa Isabel. Santa Isabel was founded by Cardinal Tomas De Almeida. Santa Isabel was founded as a Parish in the 18th century, on may 14th 1741, and exploring this area of Lisbon can be an interesting activity for most tourists. Rainfall averages at around 20 inches in this part of Portugal.
Travelling to Santa Isabel is easy from most international destinations. Lisbon has a large and very busy international airport situated a few miles away, between Loures and Lisbon. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the airport from Santa Isabel. The Aeroporto da Portela (LIS) has flights to most international airports in the UK. Many airlines operate flights between Portugal and the UK and these include British Airways, BMI and Tap Air Portugal. Some UK airports that are connected to the Aeroporto da Portela are London Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), Luton (LTN), Liverpool (LPL), Newcastle(NCL), Belfast (BFS), Edinburgh (EDI) and Glasgow (GLA).
