Places to visit on holiday to Ribeira, Portugal
In and around Ribeira there are many fantastic places for holidaymakers to visit. In Ribeira Brava visitors will see attractive building including the Church of Sao Bento with its baroque bell tower and clock dating back to the 15th century. The Museu Ethnografico da Madeira is also well worth a visit and is housed in an old rum distillery and sugar cane mill in the resort.
The island capital city, Funchal is about 10 miles away and is a great place to visit with many interesting attractions including several museums and churches. Beautiful gardens and parks are located around the island with the Botanical Gardens near Funchal and a cable car ride takes visitors up to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden. Various boat rides are offered from Funchal including a ferry service to the island of Porto Santo and dolphin and whale spotting trips.

The warmest months of the year on Madeira are July and August when the average high temperature is 26 degrees centigrade. Even in January the average high is 17 with the minimum rarely falling below 10 degrees centigrade. During the summer months there is hardly any rainfall and the wettest month is usually November with an average 4.2 inches of rain.
Travel to Ribeira, Portugal
Madeira Airport (FNC) is located near the capital city Funchal and approximately 35 kilometres from Ribeira. Flights come in to Madeira from Amsterdam (AMS), Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Brussels (BRU), London-Gatwick (LGW), London-Stansted (STN), Lisbon (LIS), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Vienna (VIE) and Zurich (ZRH) amongst others. Passengers will find taxis located outside the terminal building and six car rental companies operate out of the airport. These are Auto Jardim, Avis, Drive Car, Europcar, Hertz and Rodavante.
