Panama City is the bustling capital city of Panama in Central America. It is a city of contrasts with smart shopping and modern skyscrapers mixing with the 17th century Spanish colonial city and the older ruins of Panama Viejo. Panama City is right on the Pacific coast where ships can be seen at anchor, waiting to enter the Panama Canal which gives speedy transit to the Caribbean. Good restaurants, historic sites and the only rainforest in the world within city limits are all part of a self-catering holiday experience in Panama City.
Panama City is fairly compact and the best way to discover it is by taking a sightseeing tour with a local tour guide. Trips further afield may include a boat trip on Gatun Lake. Fishing, nature spotting and enjoying the scenery are all part of a day out on this inland lake which forms part of the Panama Canal. The city centre of Panama has two main shopping malls: the Albrook Mall and the Multicentro Mall. Albrook has hundreds of cheap stores and shops for household goods and fashions around a large food court. Multicentro has designer name shops and high class goods. The craft markets also offer great souvenir shopping for colourful local handicrafts. Those wanting to enjoy a day at the beach should head further along the Pacific coast to Coronado or visit one of the nearby islands. Panama City has several casinos for gambling, along with bars and nightclubs for a lively nightlife around your holiday rental in Panama City. Dine out at one of the excellent restaurants which serve international cuisine or head for the restaurants along the Amador Causeway which enjoy wonderful views of the boats in the marina and the ships in Panama Bay.
The Miraflores Visitor Centre is a must-see place to visit on the Panama Canal. See the ships being pulled into the lock chambers by “mules” and learn about how the canal was built in the early 20th century at an enormous cost of both money and lives. Explore Casco Viejo where the 17th century colonial buildings are being renovated in this historic area. The older ruins of Panama Viejo are an interesting site to visit and were the result of an attack by the English pirate, Henry Morgan, in 1671. Day trips from Amador take visitors to Taboga Island where you can sunbathe and wander around the old town. Other trips from your Panama holiday rental should include Portobello, with its Spanish forts on the Caribbean coast and the nearby Soberania National Park with its rainforest and exotic wildlife.
Panama City holiday rentals offer warm sunny temperatures all year round. The rainy season runs from May to November, but temperatures remain between 29-32°C (84-90°F) during the day and 22-24°C (72-75°F) at night.
There are many daily flights from Miami, USA and South American cities to Tocumen Panama (PAN) International Airport which lies about 17km (10 miles) east of your holiday rental in Panama City.
