The small village of Orahovac has been described as a “Pearl of the Adriatic”. It is a quiet location surrounded by ancient woods and superb panoramic views from its coastal position. This authentic fishing village is in the Bay of Kotor, one of the main seaside regions of Montenegro. Surrounded by historic towns and rugged mountains, Orahovac makes the perfect base for a holiday rental in Montenegro, with friendly locals, sunny summers, clean seas and wonderful fresh seafood.
Explore the charming local town of Orahovac which has narrow zigzag streets lined with ancient fishermens cottages. The old churches and local shops add to the medieval atmosphere. One of the main sights is the old oak tree, said to be 400 years old. There is a daily market for shopping at nearby Kotor where there are plenty of local restaurants and cafés. The many beautiful beaches in the Bay of Kotor are ideal for family holidays although most of them are stony. Orahovac is one of only two beaches which are sandy. In the summer season it is possible to sunbathe, water ski, wake board and take banana rides. Other activities in the area are boat trips, diving and walking. For those wishing to enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting and paragliding, the Dunitor National Park in Montenegro is ideal. Birdwatching on the nearby Scadar Lake area is also a popular attraction.
Visit some of the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage towns which are within easy reach from your Orahovac holiday rental. Kotor and Herceg Novi are both easy to reach by local bus. Kotor is an Old City with outstanding medieval architecture and monuments of cultural heritage which have led to the city being listed as a World Heritage Site. One of the landmarks of the city is the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon which is a monument to Roman history. Other churches and the Prince’s Palace are all treasures worth visiting in Kotor. Herceg Novi, which means “New Castle” has picturesque architecture including a 19th century clock tower and the 14th century fortress. It is well known as a spa and has an abundance of sea mud which is used for mud baths and beauty treatments. Further inland, head for the Biogradska Lake and the Primeval Forest National Park, one of the last remaining jungles in Europe, which is a 3 hour journey from your Orahovic holiday rental.
Orahovac enjoys warm sunny summers with temperatures reaching 25-29°C (77-84°F). Winters are mild and temperatures remain well above freezing with a pleasant climate in the spring and autumn. The driest months are between May and October.
Orahovac holiday rentals are served by Tivat (TIV) Airport which is 20km along the coast. The main Podgorica (TGD) Airport, further inland, is 100 km away. Visitors may also choose to fly to Dubrovnik (DBV) Cilipi Airport which is 50km away in Croatia. All these airports have regular flights from major European cities with budget airlines.
