The countryside is awash with traditional trulli in which to stay if you would like the authentic Puglian experience, but there are a whole host of luxury Oria villas too if you would prefer to bask in space during your holiday in the sun. The locals are fantastically welcoming, and if you are looking to eat and drink well during your holiday, you have certainly come to the right place.
Oria is a thriving town all year round, especially in the historic centre, which is filled with beautifully understated monuments from throughout the ages. The beautifully domed cathedral and the impressive medieval castle dominate most sightseeing guides to Oria, but the 10th century Jewish quarter also holds a great many treasures worth exploring, especially the Synagogue. The region is carpeted in vineyards and wineries too, which provide both an excellent accompaniment to local cuisine and fascinating vineyard tours and wine tasting sessions to interested tourists.
Oria is home to one of the most bizarre tournaments in Italy. The Tournament of the Districts (Torneo dei Rioni) was first held in 1225, and is still re-enacted today. Preceded by a 400 strong costumed procession and contested with remarkable support, this really is a fantastic time to be staying in Oria accommodation. The whole city is decorated with banners, and the lavish opening ceremony which starts the competition is great fun to watch. So, if you are looking to watch a town compete in competitions as varied as weight pulling to horse battles, then a holiday rental in Oria during August is the perfect solution!
