Nature lovers will find that the region makes for great walking and hiking, with the area around Murlo characterized by dense woodland, winding brooks and rivers and Mediterranean scrubland. A lack of disturbance to the landscape means that a huge array of wildlife can be spotted out in the countryside, including wild boar, deer, foxes, squirrels, badgers and numerous forms of birdlife.

There is also much to be seen in Murlo when it comes to historical buildings. The 12th Century Castello di Murlo has been converted into a number of smaller buildings, which surround the aforementioned Bishops palace and the village cathedral. One of the key sights to visit in the Val di Merse region is the Abbey of San Galgano (19km), home of the famous Sword in the Stone.
