Tourists looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings may like to try the small town of Moniga del Garda. This wonderfully scenic place is on the West shoreline of Lake Garda in the Lombardy region of North Italy. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, cottages, apartments and campsites.
Moniga del Garda offers great opportunities for hiking and cycling with many trails in the region with scenic views of Lake Garda and the mountainous countryside. Here visitors will find a few shops with souvenirs and gifts, while some outlet centres can be found further North on the lake in the region of Manerba del Garda.
There are a number of interesting places to visit in the region including historic buildings and a castle overlooking Moniga del Garda. The Garda area also features museums and churches such as Vittoriale Museum, Castelvecchio Museum, Santuario Madonna Della Corona, Porto San Giorgio Church, The wine museum. Moniga del Garda is the largest producer of Chiaretto wine and there are many vineyards and olive groves to be seen here.
There are some theme parks in the area well worth visiting including Aqua Paradise Park, Movieland Studios and Gardaland. Milan is about an hour and a half away via the A4 road and features some magnificent buildings, not to mention plenty of shops. Here there is the famous San Siro football stadium, which is well worth a visit.
The temperature in Northern Italy does not get as hot in summer as the south, but average maximums in Lombardy are around 29 degrees centigrade in July and August. Temperatures normally stay in the 20 degree centigrade area between May and September. October is usually the wettest month of the year with an average of 110 mm rainfall.
Cheap flights to Brescia Airport are provided by Ryaniar from London-Stanstead. The airport is just 20 minutes from Moniga del Garda. Orio al Serio Airport in Milan also offers low cost flights with Ryanair the main airline operating here. It offers flights to and from domestic and major European destinations such as Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, Madrid and Paris and numerous British airports including Bristol, East Midlands, London-Stansted, Liverpool and Glasgow. Buses from the airport take passengers to Milan, Brescia and Bergamo.
Car hire firms such as Autoeuropa, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Locauto Tirreno, Major Rent and Sixt are located at the airport. The airport is approximately an hour’s drive from Moniga del Garda.
