There are many fantastic places to visit in Italy but without doubt one of the most beautiful is the area around Lake Como, including the municipality of Moltrasio. This is a very scenic lakeside area that lies within the province of Como, which is part of the Lombardy region of North Italy. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, apartments and campsites.
Moltrasio is a great place for hiking and cycling with many trails in the region with scenic views of the lakes, valleys and mountains. Panoramic footpaths lead hikers to Cernobbio or Laglio or high up the mountains. The magnificent Lake Como offers holidaymakers many water activities such as swimming, water skiing, canoeing, sailing, diving, kayaking and motor boating.
During the winter months visitors come to Lombardy for downhill and cross country skiing. There are many excellent golf courses in Lombardy including about eight clubs located in the Como region. Fishing is also popular here with late summer a good time to fish on Lake Como.
There are a few good restaurants, bars and cafes in and around Moltrasio serving good Italian food, especially down by the lakeside. Self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase food and beverages at stores near Lake Como. There are a few shops in the area and visitors will be able to buy different types of souvenirs and gifts.
There are a number of interesting places to visit in the region including historic buildings and country houses such as Villa Passalaqua and Villa Rosa. The most famous feature of Moltrasio is the waterfall, which flows away under three Roman bridges. A short ferry ride on Lake Como connects the popular towns of Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna.
Como also houses a few museums including Museo Storico G. Garibaldi and Museo Didattico della Seta. Milan is about 60 kilometres away and features some magnificent buildings, not to mention plenty of shops. Here there is the famous San Siro football stadium, which is well worth a visit.
The temperature in Northern Italy does not get as hot in summer as the south, but average maximums in Lombardy are around 29 degrees centigrade in July and August. Temperatures normally stay in the 20 degree centigrade area between May and September. October is usually the wettest month of the year with an average of 110 mm rainfall.
Malpensa Airport in Milan offers flights to and from domestic and major European destinations such as Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, London, Madrid and Paris and many others as well as cities outside Europe including New York and Hong Kong. There are numerous car hire firms such as Autoeuropa, Avis, Budget, Easycar, Europcar, Hertz, Locauto, Maggiore National, Sixt, Targa Rent and Thrifty are located at the airport. Moltrasio is approximately a one hour’s drive from the airport.
