Bellagio sits in the middle of the two ‘arms’ of Lake Como, right on the tip of the peninsula. The best way to reach it from your villa in Domaso is by ferry from Varenna, called a ‘battello’. The narrow cobbled streets are stepped in places and run picturesquely down to the Lake between colourful houses bedecked with window boxes.
The Medieval town of Bergamo has some amazing architecture. It is fun to travel up the hill by funicular from the lower city. At the weekend, traffic is banned from this historic area. Make sure you visit the Citadel, the Old Square and the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. Look for the ancient city walls too.
