The town of Argegno lies on an inlet on the famous Lake Como in Northern Italy. The stunning panoramic views and mild climate make holiday rentals in Argegno hugely popular year round, and the ancient Roman town centre is an absolute joy in which to sit and drink coffee from one on the open-air pavement cafes. Almost totally void of tourists, Argegno remains authentically Italian, and entirely relaxed. There is no better escape on the shores of Lake Como than an Argegno villa.
The enchanting medieval centre of Argegno is stunning, surrounded like delightful old houses and ancient factories. There are some beautiful sights to see within the village, from the Sanctuary of Sant’Anna which is adorned with 17th century frescos, and the Oratorio of San Rocco. Long, leisurely lunches are part of life in Argegno, and there are ample opportunities to indulge in the finest of local culture, sitting beside the lake, with the sun on your face, stunning views of majestic mountains in your mind and the taste of sweet white wines in your mouth.
If you take the cable car from the centre of the village up to the Pigra, some 8881 metres above your head, you not only get the most impressive views of the lake available from anywhere, but you also get to explore the Valle della Camoggia conservation area. There are a great range of walks and mountain bike trails to explore, taking you deep into the forested mountains of Lake Como, allowing you to discover some of the most delightful hidden spots you can find.
The lake itself is a huge source of entertainment for those lucky enough to be staying in a self catering Argegno holiday rental too. The small lake beaches are an absolute delight during the summer months, and the reliable breezes that blow up the lake are not only perfect for keeping the hot air refreshed, but also for sailing and windsurfing breaks. Fishing is also hugely popular on the lake, and the waters are easily clean enough for you to enjoy refreshing swims to escape the afternoon heat.
Bellagio is the most famous town on the shores of Lake Como, and is easily reached from a holiday rental in Argegno, whether by road or via the waters of Lake Como itself. Bellagio is well worth a visit, especially due to the spectacular gardens and gourmet restaurants that line the water’s edge.
Villas in Argegno are at their most popular between March and late October as daily temperatures reach into the 30’s (˚C) on the huge majority of days, making swimming, sailing, kayaking and wind surfing hugely popular.
A holiday rental property in Argegno is easily accessible from either Milan’s Malpensa Airport (MXP) or Bergamo’s Orio Al Serio Airport (BGY), both of which are served by Ryanair flights from across the UK (Milan receives a huge range of services besides Ryanair, but they do provide the most extensive range of services). Milan Airport is just 60km from an Argegno villa, and a hire car is strongly recommended. There is however a great train service from Milan to Como if you would prefer to avoid driving.
