Adventurous travellers may also like to try caving and mountaineering here too. There are a few places to dine in and around Skouloufia including restaurants and taverns serving mainly local fare. There are several interesting places to visit on the island including museums and galleries such as the Historical Museum and Archive and the Battle of Crete Museum at Heraklion. Visitors will also be able to see many monasteries too including the ruined 11th century monastery of Katholiko, which is the oldest on the island. Lake Kournas is a beautiful area surrounded by mountains and is the only lake on Crete.
