Holidaymakers looking for a wonderful hot destination in the Mediterranean may like to try Keramoti on the Greek island of Crete. Located on the west coast of the island, Keramoti offers something for everyone with easy access to many interesting activities and sights. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas and apartments.
Keramoti has a quiet pebbly beach about two and a half kilometres from the village and is a pleasant setting for sunbathing and swimming in the sea. With many wonderful views to enjoy the area also offers plenty of places to go hiking and cycling. There are other sandy beaches nearby that are more suitable for families with children. Holidaymakers can enjoy various watersports along the coast here such as windsurfing, waterskiing and kayaking. Various coastal resorts nearby allow tourists to charter fishing trips or take visitors on boat trips around the island. There is just one 18-hole golf course on the island located at Hersonissos. Restaurants and taverns serving mainly local cuisine and seafood are located in and around the village. There are a few shops here too with souvenirs and gifts available. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drink from a local store and there are other grocery stores just outside the village.
There are several interesting places to visit on the island including museums and galleries such as the Archaeological Museum, Historical and Folk Museum and the Nautical Museum in Chania. Numerous historic buildings are located here too including palaces, churches and monasteries such as Arkadi Monastery and Preveli Monastery. Visitors will also be able to see some great natural features on Crete such as The Cave of Psychro and The Samaria Gorge. Lake Kournas is a beautiful area surrounded by mountains and is the only lake on Crete. There are some ancient sites worth visiting including ones at Lissos and Falassarna as well as the Minoan necropolis of Armeni.
The warmest time of the year to visit Keramoti is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 29 degrees centigrade. During these months holidaymakers can expect to see an average of 12 to 13 hours of sunshine per day. Whilst January is the month with most prolonged periods of rain at an average of 14 days, May is actually the wettest with an average of 115mm.
Chania International Airport (CHQ)) is approximately 80 kilometres from Keramoti and has flights to and from Athens (ATH) as well as other European cities such as Berlin-Tegel (TXL) and Moscow-Vnukovo (VKO). There are seasonal flights to and from Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), London-Gatwick (LGW) and Stockholm-Arlanda (ARN) amongst other cities too. Europcar, Hertz and Kappa are the three car rental firms are located at the airport. Taxis are available just outside the passenger terminal.
