Things to do
-Beaches: Bordered by amazingly clear turquoise waters and carpeted in soft, golden sands, the Kefalonia coastline is simply incomparable. Pretty enough to have been used as the set for a number of film productions is the Antisamos Beach. This is a stretch of white, pebbly shoreline with such clear waters you can see little fish swimming underneath. It provides everything a sun-starved holidaymaker needs from free parasols and loungers to a selection of bars and eateries.
-Food and drink: Karavados holiday home residents on promenades along Kefalonia’s pristine coastline will find incredible restaurants and bars on the way. They can seek refreshment at the Akri Seaside Bar if they want a place to shelter from the summer sun while sipping chilled cocktails and gazing idly into the endless waters of the Ionian Sea. For an unforgettable taste of lamb prepared in traditional Greek method and served in friendly surroundings one can pop into To Perasma.
-Boat trips: Sailing around the Ionian islands surveying the incredible geological features that punctuate its coastline is one of the delights those booked into Karavados holiday villas can look forward to. There are a number of boat rentals available along the Kefalonia coastline from which tourists can hire vessels to go exploring the secluded beaches, hidden caves and imposing cliffs. The stunning Drogarati Caves and the Koutavos Lagoon are among the attractions they’ll encounter.
-Hiking: Those who would like to hike through the rugged mountainous landscape of Kefalonia will probably want to schedule their visit for autumn or late spring as the heat during summer can be quite oppressive. Along the way hikers will be exposed to the island’s amazing range of flora and fauna, which includes over 200 bird species. When they climb up Mount Ainos they’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramas stretching all the way to the endless blue of the Ionian.
-Historical monuments: History buffs will also find something worth photographing or putting down in their journals in Kefalonia. The Evangelistria Church is one of them and the ancient structures in Argostoli, which include a lighthouse and a Venetian castle, are others. They can top off on visits to these sites with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli. Exhibits here include artefacts collected from the prehistoric and Roman eras.
