The small village of Kalo Chorio, also spelt Kalo Horio, is adjoining the coastal village of Istron and just a little further inland. However it is still within easy walking distance of the local beaches. “Kalo Chorio” means “good village” and is on the north coast of Crete, 10km from the harbour town of Agios Nikolaos in the Lasithi region. Explore the livelier coastal town of Istron which has plenty of local shops, sports bars and evening entertainment. Further afield is the vibrant harbour town of Agrio Nikolaus, named after the 7th century Church. It has well-preserved frescoes dating back to the 9th century and is in a location which has stunning views across the town and bay. The fishing harbour is ideal for taking a boat trip around the bay and at night the town has excellent bars and restaurants. There are local bus services to a number of other towns including Heraklion with its archaeological museum, the charming towns of Ierapetra and Sitia and the Minoan settlements of Malia and Knossos.
