Anyone looking for a scenic getaway in the middle of France should try the village of Vievy. This is a beautiful area located in the Burgundy region to the east of the country, and is a superb base for lots of activities and sights in the area. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, B&Bs and apartments.
The pretty village of Vievy has delightful scenic places for hikers, cyclists and horse riders to explore. Holidaymakers can participate in various watersports such as swimming, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and sailing on the waterways of this region. Golf fans will find a few golf courses close to the village, whilst other sports available to holidaymakers here include tennis, mountain biking and archery. Adventurous tourists may like to head for the skies in a hot air balloon or race around on a quad bike. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in this area serving delicious French cuisine. Larger retailers are to be found in the larger towns and cities of the department such as Beaune.
Vievy is located close to many places of interest in the Burgundy region including some delightful wineries. The town of Autun is about 17 kilometres away and features some interesting Roman ruins as well as well as an attractive cathedral. The city of Beaune is just a 30 minute drive away and features some interesting museums such as Musee du Vin and the Museum of Fine Arts. The medieval churches of Notre Dame and St Nicolas are fine buildings to visit as well. Dijon is about an hour away and has some impressive churches, a cathedral and numerous museums. Ducal Palace is another very popular attraction in Dijon. Holidaymakers may also like to take a day trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and the many other attractions in the French capital.
The warmest time of year in this part of France is July and August with average high temperatures of about 25 degrees centigrade. In January and December the average high is around six degrees centigrade, but temperatures can fall below zero at this time of the year. The wettest month of the year is often September when the average rainfall is about 90mm.
Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) is approximately two hours and 20 minutes drive from Vievy.
