One of five villages which make up the famous French skiing resort of Tignes, Les Brevieres is almost certainly the prettiest. It is a traditional Savoyard village which has avoided the characterless development of many Alpine skiing resorts, and lies at the base of the Espace Killy ski area between Val d’Isere and the resort centre at Tignes. With unrivalled charm and snow-sure slopes, a Tignes-les-Brevieres rental chalet is ideal for those looking for a traditional alpine skiing holiday.
Tignes-les-Brevieres is a delightful place to stay whether you are there to ski and snowboard or not. With a little tabac, supermarket, tourist information office and a different restaurant and bar for every day of the week, Tinges-les-Brevieres chalets are ideal for a relaxing break at any time of the year.
During the winter, self catering Tignes-les-Brevieres accommodation is very popular with those who know the region well, as there are great ski and snowboard runs coming right down into the village. There are free lifts and beginner slopes, as well as a wonderful ski school in the centre of the village, perfect if you need to blow away your cobwebs on your arrival in the village. There are some wonderfully wide blue and red runs for intermediates and it is here that you can tackle the fearsome ‘La Sache’ black run. Tignes-les-Brevieres chalets also have access to some excellent backcountry trails. Amazingly, you can still ski into the village as late as May, as the north facing slopes remain sheltered from the sun long after the slopes of many other resorts.
If you don’t feel like taking to the slopes, there is a magnificent adrenaline inducing ice driving circuit which will really test even the finest of drivers, yet allow those with no experience to have a great drive.
The internationally renowned centre of Tignes is just a 20 minute cross country ski from the door of your Tignes-les-Brevieres holiday home, or you can take the 6 person high speed bubble lift. As part of the Espace Killy ski domain, any level of skier or snowboarder will find ample piste to challenge, invigorate and entertain, especially when you consider the 1,900m drops for which the domain is known. The off-piste here is also considered the best in Europe.
The climate of Tignes-les-Brevieres is obviously cold, with average temperatures in the heart of winter going towards 0°C. In the summer months, temperatures can rise to around 20°C, ideal for alpine walking holidays.
Grenoble Airport (GNB) is the closest to a ski chalet in Tignes-les-Brevieres, and can be reached from a surprising number of British Airports. British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, ThomsonFly all offer cheap flights, and there are numerous transfer options from the airport. Alternatively, there are some very popular ski trains provided by Eurostar specifically designed for those travelling from England to the ski resorts of Savoie.
