Holidaymakers looking for a scenic place to stay in northwest France should visit Saint Thual. This pretty commune is located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany in the North West of France. Saint Thual is located in a very scenic area that is wonderful to explore by hiking, cycling and horse riding. About 40 minutes drive away are some lovely sandy beaches on the north coast including the resort of Dinard. Saint Thual is located close to many interesting places in the Brittany region including Dinan, which is about 15 kilometres away. Dinan Chateau was built in the 14th century and is home to the town museum. Other places of interest in Dinan include the clock tower, Saint Malo church, Basilique Saint-Sauveur and the Jardin Anglais. Another fine place to visit is the Chateau de Combourg, which is surrounded by well maintained landscaped gardens and is a nice place to take a picnic. A little further away on the north coast is Saint Malo, which is one of the most popular places in Brittany. Here tourists can see the magnificent cathedral, museums, an aquarium and many historic buildings.
The climate in North West France is a temperate one, although the weather conditions are greatly affected by the Atlantic Ocean. The Brittany area of France receives about 200 days of rainfall annually with November to January the wettest time of year. July and August are the hottest months of the year with average maximum temperatures approximately 21 degrees centigrade.
Dinard - Pleurtuit - Saint-Malo Airport (DNR) is approximately 40 minutes drive from Saint Thual. Ryanair operate flights to Dinard from East Midlands (EMA) and London-Stansted (STN) airports in the UK. Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Alamo are car hire firms with desks at the airport. Alternatively Rennes –Saint Jacques Airport (RNS) is about 45 minutes drive from Saint Thual. Flights arrive here from a handful of French cities as well as Southampton (SOU) with Flybe, who also offer seasonal flights from Birmingham (BHX), Edinburgh (EDI), Exeter (EXT) and Manchester (MAN). Seasonal flights also arrive here from Barcelona courtesy of Brit Air and from Cork and Dublin with Aer Arann.
