Anyone searching for a great holiday by the north coast of France might like to try the resort of Ouistreham. Located in the Calvados department within the region of Normandy, this town offers many things for holidaymakers to see and do. Ouistreham is located by the sea and holidaymakers can enjoy the summer sun on sandy beaches nearby. This scenic area is also ideal for hiking and cycling with some nice routes along the coast. There are many golf courses in the department of Calvados including one 20 minutes away at Caen. Ouistreham features several tourist attractions including a couple of good museums and an old German bunker from World War II that was captured by the British. Caen is just 20 minutes drive away and features fine sights such as the 11th century castle, which is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Western Europe. Visitors will also be able to see abbeys, churches and the beautiful botanical gardens in Caen. Less than 30 minutes from Ouistreham is Dives-sur-Mer, where visitors can see a 14th century Market Hall in which the Saturday market is held. Holidaymakers can also visit Church of Notre Dame in Dives-sur-Mer as well as an unusual garden called Maison Bleue. A 40 minute drive will take tourists to the town of Bayeux, which is best known for its 11th century tapestry but is also home to the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy.

Rennes – Saint-Jacques Airport (RNS) is approximately two hours and 25 minute’s drive from Ouistreham. Flights arrive here from Southampton (SOU) year round as well as seasonally from Cork (ORK), Dublin (DUB), Edinburgh (EDI), Exeter (EXT) and Manchester (MAN). Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Sixt are car rental firms located at the airport. Alternatively, visitors from the UK can catch a ferry from Portsmouth to Ouistreham.
