Orelle consists of 10 small hamlets within the Maurienne Valley region of the French Alps. It is connected by the Three Valleys Express Gondola to the coveted Three Valleys ski area, which takes about 15 minutes to reach.
With north facing slopes and some of the highest pistes, the skiing around Orelle and Val Thorens is among the best in Europe. There are ski runs for all skill levels as well as a small local ski school. Other activities to enjoy from your holiday home in Orelle include snowshoeing on a half or full day trek. In summer there are many beautiful hikes in the mountains. More adventurous visitors can go climbing or paragliding over the valley from the nearby Caron’s summit.
Visitors staying in Orelle holiday chalets can explore the neighbouring hamlets that make up the Orelle region. Shopping and a wider choice of restaurants can be found at St Michel de Maurienne or St Jean de Maurienne, a short drive away. The Vanoise National Park is nearby and in summer is very popular with hikers and nature lovers. In summer, a visit to the Grand Perron Farm is popular to see how local cheese is made. The Italian town of Torino (Turin) is a popular day out, about 75 minutes by road from Orelle. It has many baroque palaces and churches and some fine museums. The town of Chambery has a mediaeval quarter, cathedral and the famous Elephants’ Fountain.
Orelle holiday rentals in the Three Valleys have warm summers and cold winters with plenty of snow. In the summer months, it reaches an average 28°C (82°F) during the day, dropping to 14°C (57°F) overnight. Winter months are cold with daytime highs around 7-8°C (45-47°F). Overnight freezing and snow is likely from December to March. The area has precipitation all year round, although slightly less in summer.
Orelle holiday rentals are served by various airports in the area. The nearest airport is Chambery (CMF) Airport which is about 95 km away. It has seasonal flights from many UK cities with Flybe, Jet2 and Titan Airways as well as British Airways City Flyer flights from London-City Airport. Another option, particularly useful in the summer, is Geneva International (GVA) Airport in Switzerland which has regular international flights from all over Europe. It is 180 km away as is the Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport at Grenoble. There are direct shuttle buses providing transfers to Orelle from all three airports. The nearest railway station to Orelle is at St Michel de Maurienne/Valloire and taxis can be used for the final 6km drive.
