Lisieux is located near some fantastic Normandy countryside offering great routes for hikers and cyclists to enjoy. The coast is only half an hour’s drive away and holidaymakers can head to some lovely sandy beaches and enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea. The coast offers visitors the chance to try their hand at a spot of fishing and sailing. There are a few golf courses just a short drive from Lisieux including one 30 minutes away at Bernay. Other popular activities here include tennis, mountain biking and horse riding. Lisieux has some nice bars, cafes and restaurants serving delicious French cuisine and self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase food and drinks from local shops. Cheeses and cider are especially popular at the Saturday morning market in Lisieux.
Lisieux has some very interesting historic places to visit such as the Basilica of Sainte-Therese de Lisieux, Chateau de Saint-Germain de Livet and Saint Pierre Cathedral. Just a few kilometres away is the village of Cambremer, which is the start of the Normandy Cider Route. Here visitors will also see a fine 12th century church and the beautiful Jardin de Amelle et Jacques Noppe. The Chateau de Crevecoeur is near to Cambremer and is a medieval castle in a pretty garden setting. Le Havre is just an hour away from Lisieux where the famous Musee Malraux is housed. The museum features great works of art by Impressionist painters but the town also has some great modern buildings such as the unusual Volcan where film, theatre and musical performances are held.
