The Cote d’Azur is a fantastic part of France to take a vacation with scenic villages such as Le Thor. Located in the south of the country this area has many interesting historic sites and lots of exciting things for visitors to see do. The commune of Le Thor has some good trails, where visitors can enjoy the wonderful scenic views of the area by hiking, cycling and horse riding. The region also offers holidaymakers watersports including kayaking and canoeing as well as fishing. The beaches of the south coast are only an hour away and as well as sunbathing and swimming holidaymakers can try more watersports such as sailing and wind surfing. There are several other popular sports visitors to the region can try including tennis, golf and mountain biking. Le Thor has a fine looking Romanesque Church that is well worth a visit. In addition to his there are many great places nearby such as Pernes-les-Fontaines, which features 40 ancient fountains. Only 10 kilometres from Le Thor, this village has numerous ancient buildings including 17th and 18th century town houses as well as an old church and a fortified gateway. The city of Avignon is just 20 minutes away and has many fashionable shops, restaurants and museums as well as ancient buildings. About half an hour away is the very picturesque village of Gordes, which features a 12th century abbey and a castle housing a museum of art exhibits.
The weather between May and September is generally very warm with the average in July and August around 26 degrees centigrade, although temperatures can reach as high as 35 degrees. July is also very dry but the rest of the summer can see a few showers. Winters are cool and wet with December, January and February the coldest months with an average low of 5 degrees centigrade.
Avignon-Caumont Airport (AVN) is just 20 minute’s drive from Le Thor and has flights from Manchester (MAN) and Southampton (SOU) with Flybe and Leeds-Bradford (LBA) with Jet2.com. Passengers can get a taxi or hire a car from the airport to their accommodation in the village. Alternatively Marseille-Provence Airport (MRS) is about an hour from Le Thor and has connections to more cities than Avignon. These include Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels-South Charleroi (CRL), Frankfurt (FRA), Geneva (GVA), Lisbon (LIS), London-Gatwick (LGW), Madrid (MAD) and Rome-Ciampino (CIA) amongst others. Again there are car hire firms and taxis operating from this airport.
