Holidaymakers looking for a fantastic vacation in the Rhone-Alpes region of France should try the commune of Labastide de Virac. Located in the Ardeche department, this area of the country offers many things for holidaymakers to see and do. Labastide de Virac and the surrounding area are very scenic and well worth exploring by hiking and cycling. The Sautadet waterfalls just below the village are a particular highlight. About an hour away is the town of Orange where holidaymakers will see the Roman theatre, the 22 metre high Triumphal arch, the ancient cathedral and the Municipal Museum. Nimes is approximately one and a half hour’s drive from Labastide de Virac and features many wonderful historic buildings and museums. These include the elliptical Roman amphitheatre, the cathedral, the Maison Carree and the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Nimes.
The warmest time of the year to visit this part of France is generally July and August when the average daily maximum temperature is approximately 26 degrees centigrade. January is the coldest month with average highs of 6 degrees centigrade, although the temperature can fall to zero with sleet and snow showers not uncommon during winter. The wettest month tends to be September with an average rainfall of 93mm.
Avignon-Caumont Airport (AVN) is one hour and 20 minute’s drive from Labastide de Virac and has seasonal flights from London-City (LCY), Leeds/Bradford (LBA), Manchester (MAN) and Southampton (SOU). Alternatively Montpellier - Méditerranée Airport (MPL) is also about one hour and 20 minutes drive away. Flights arrive here from Brussels-South Charleroi (CRL), Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), London-Gatwick (LGW) and Madrid (MAD) amongst others. There are several car rental firms located at both airports.
