Gassin is a delightful little Mediterranean village situated in one of the finest locations in the whole of Var. From its position on the St Tropez peninsula, perched on a rock outcrop high above the coast, a holiday rental villa in Gassin provides beautiful views out across the sea, yet is just 4km from the fine golden sands of the Mediterranean coast. Despite the popularity of St Tropez with tourists, Gassin remains as a hidden gem, where you can take a self catering Gassin property, seemingly miles from a tourist crowd, yet with excellent access to all the attractions of the region.
The winding streets of Gassin has managed to retain its beautiful ancient appearance, atmosphere and style, which makes it one of the most appealing places to spend time during the heat of the day. Cobbled streets are swathed in cooling shadows, where locals and visitors casually sit in pavement cafes, watching the word drifting by, waiting for the summer heat to pass. The views stretch over thick forests and rich vineyards all the way to the coast and Port Gassin in the distance. There are a handful of excellent sites to see in Gassin too, best viewed from the ancient ramparts that surround the village. The town’s rectory and the picturesque Chapel Notre Dame de la Compassion are certainly worth exploring.
However, it is Gassin’s golf courses that have really put the village on the tourist map. The Gassin Golf Course and Country Club is a beautifully landscaped area, with luxurious villas looking out right across the wide, green fairways of the Gassin golf course. With an excellent 18 holes on offer, Gassin golf course offers something of a challenge to every player, and with the beach just 4km away, even if you have a terrible round, a relaxing afternoon can still be had with ease! There are also 3 tennis courts and private swimming pools with each villa in Gassin Country Club.
Away from the beaches of the Mediterranean, the Maures Mountains offer visitors to Gassin accommodation a huge range of walking and horse riding trails to explore. There are many miles of walking and riding, taking you along the coastline of the St Tropez peninsula, into the purple hills which mark the skyline to the north and into the seven wine domains that you can see from a Gassin villa. These vineyards offer some magnificent tours and tasting days too.
Gassin has recently acquired an extension to the village. The Gassin marina is swiftly becoming one of the most celebrated marinas on the St Tropez peninsula, acting as a summer home to a remarkable range of boats and yachts.
All the attractions of the St Tropez peninsula are well within reach of an apartment or villa in Gassin. St Tropez itself, with its luxury shopping, restaurants and nightlife, is just 9km along the coast, whilst the superb beaches of Sainte Maxime, the Cogolin Marina and the beautiful rural village of La Croix Valmer are all within 12km.
The climate in this part of the world is a dream. During the hot summer months, daily temperatures routinely soar well into the mid 30’s (˚C), with reliable on shore breezes keeping the air refreshingly cool. To avoid any crowds along the coastline, travelling to a self catering Gassin villa during the autumn months is an excellent option, as the Indian summer lasts long into October.
The closest airport to Gassin accommodation is the Toulon-Hyeres Airport (TLN). Ryanair provide direct flights to Toulon from Stansted Airport (STN), but if leaving from Stansted isn’t a suitable option from home, both Marseille (MRS) and Nice (NCE) international airports (both of which receive a huge range of British bound flights) are within an hour of a Gassin property.
