The village of Canet-en-Roussillon is perfectly located on the coast of the Pyrenees Orientales region of southern France. Located in the sunniest region of France, Canet-en-Roussillon is a great place to relax in the sun, with endless water sports on offer as well as magnificent access into the mountains for those wishing to walk and ride. Nowhere does nature and history mix so easily with beach life, creating one of the most interesting, invigorating and inspiring holiday destinations in France.
You are never more than a short walk from the beach in a Canet-en-Roussillon holiday home. There are a huge range of activities on offer in Canet, with ample opportunity to go sailing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, water skiing and wind surfing. Whether you are interested in learning or would just like to hire some equipment and head out into the warm waters of the Mediterranean, there are numerous water sports centres waiting to help. During the summer months, children’s clubs are set up too, making Canet-en-Roussillon villas a real favourite for family holidays.
The natural landscapes that surround Canet-en-Roussillon are perfect for activity too. The large lagoon behind the town is a nature lover’s dream, and is home to a great deal of wildlife, especially birds. Walking, riding and cycling holidays all thrive in the area, with excellent footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes weaving through local orchards, vineyards and farms, leading walkers into the Pyrenean foothills to the west. There are also tennis courts and a handful of excellent golf courses in and around the town for your enjoyment. There are also a great range of children’s activity parks and sports grounds throughout the town, helping to earn Canet-en-Roussillon the slogan ‘town of sport’.
Throughout the calendar, although especially between June and September, Canet-en-Roussillon is host to a great range of exhibitions, concerts and theatrical performances. The Canet-en-Roussillon tourist information offices have all the information and schedules for performances in the town.
There are so many places worth visiting from a self catering Canet-en-Roussillon villa that you will have to visit many times to see them all. The artists’ haven of Collioure, nestled between the mountains and the sea, is a magnificent town to explore, whilst the amazing medieval heritage of Carcassonne means that it makes for almost essential viewing too. The Spanish border is not far from Canet-en-Roussillon either, with Barcelona just a few hours to the south.
The warm Mediterranean climate of Canet-en-Roussillon is a huge asset. Average monthly temperatures break the 20˚C mark from May, right through until September, with July and August seeing midday temperatures reaching well into the high 30’s on most days. Conditions remain warm enough for a swim in the sea all the way through until November.
Perpignan Airport (PGF) is just 15 minutes from the front door of a Canet-en-Roussillon property. Ryanair provide direct flights to Perpignan from Birmingham (BHX) and Stansted (STN), whilst Flybe provide services from Southampton (SOU).
