Holidaymakers looking for a pleasant break in the north west of France might like to try the commune of Brix in the Normandy region. Located in the Manche department this is a delightful village with many things for tourists to see and do. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, B&Bs, gites and apartments.
The beaches of Normandy are only a short drive away and are perfect for sunbathing as well as various watersports such as waterskiing, swimming, diving, sailing, fishing and wind surfing. Brix and the surrounding areas have some wonderful scenery and are best explored by hiking, cycling and horse riding. There are several golf courses in the Manche department about half an hour away as well as public tennis courts. A good mix of restaurants, cafes and bars can be found in the area serving excellent French cuisine. Various shops and markets are close by for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drinks as well as other provisions.
Visitors to Brix will find lots of interesting places to visit during their stay here. About 15 minutes away is Bricquebec where there is a castle well worth visiting. Only 10 minutes away is the town of Valognes, where visitors can see some wonderful old mansions as well as a cider museum and a brandy and old trades museum. The rocky tidal island of Le Mont St Michel is only about one hour and 45 minutes away. Day trips to the islands of Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney are available from Carteret and Dielette. Holidaymakers may also like to take a day trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and its many other attractions.
July and August are the warmest months of the year in Normandy with average high temperatures of 21 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with average highs of 9 degrees and lows of 4 degrees centigrade. As well as being one of the coldest months, February is also usually the driest with an average of 49mm of rainfall. December sees the highest level of precipitation with an average of 84mm.
Rennes –Saint Jacques Airport (RNS) is about two hours and 25 minutes drive from Brix. Flights arrive here from a handful of French cities as well as Southampton (SOU) with Flybe, who also offer seasonal flights from Birmingham (BHX), Edinburgh (EDI), Exeter (EXT) and Manchester (MAN). Seasonal flights also arrive here from Barcelona (BCN) courtesy of Brit Air and from Cork and Dublin (DUB) with Aer Arann. Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Sixt are car hire companies represented at the airport. Alternatively a ferry service crosses the English Channel from Poole and Portsmouth on the south coast of England to Cherbourg. The drive from Cherbourg to Brix is approximately 25 minutes.
