A pretty scenic town by the river, Auray provides an idyllic location for a relaxing holiday. Auray is located in the Morbihan department within the region of Brittany in the North West of France. Auray provides some lovely countryside and scenic pathways for hikers and cyclists to enjoy, especially along the riverbank. The Morbihan area has numerous 9 and 18-hole golf courses including one of each at Golf De Saint-Laurent in Auray.There are several bars, cafes and restaurants in Redon with a variety of cuisine ranging from traditional French to Indian. A good range of shops can be found here as well and self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase food and beverages as well as souvenirs. An open-air market is held on Mondays in Auray.
The region boasts many places of interest such as museums and galleries including the Musee de Cire de l’Historial in Sainte Anne D’Auray. Various historic buildings can be found in and around the town including some 15th and 16th century houses in the ancient quarter of St-Goustan and the 17th century church of St Gildas.A short drive to Vannes will take visitors to museums and an aquarium, while further north at Saint Malo is the Grand Aquarium, which is one of the best in France. Visitors may also like to take a day trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and other attractions, which can take nearly five hours by car.
The climate in North West France is a temperate one, although the weather conditions are greatly affected by the Atlantic Ocean. The Brittany area of France receives about 200 days of rainfall annually with November to January the wettest time of year. July and August are the hottest months of the year with average maximum temperatures approximately 21 degrees centigrade.
Rennes –Saint Jacques Airport is about an hour and a half away and has flights to and from a handful of French cities including Paris, Nice and Lyon as well as some seasonal flights to Dublin, Basel and Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester in the UK.The airport at Nantes is a similar distance away from Auray and offers flights to and from more European cities than Rennes, including London, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Madrid. Car rental companies are located outside the terminal building.
