Things to do

-Beaches. For a day of sun and sand one of the best local options would be Villefranche-sur-Mer, which has coarse sand and shingle, as opposed to the pebble beaches at Nice. Further east is Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, a peninsula with a craggy landscape and sheltered coves like Paloma Beach, which faces away from the open sea.

-Outdoor recreation. An interesting feature of Aspremont is that in the middle ages it had a different location. It was perched on nearby Mont Cima, and there are a number of fragments of this town’s stone buildings remaining to this day for intrepid walkers to investigate. You can take the GR5, a long hiking trail that extends north from Nice, to get there. The GR51 trail also passes close by Aspremont, and is billed the “Balcony of the Côte d’Azur”.

-Mountain villages. Aspremont is a lovely hilltop village, with an interesting layout – it’s roads form concentric circles around the centre. On the edge of the village are orchards and olive groves set out in terraces. All around are stunning old settlements – make the short drive up to Coaraze to see one of the most impressive. It’s perched in front of a formidable mountain backdrop and has lots of medieval architecture to admire and narrow, cobblestone streets to wander through.

-Nice lifestyle. Shopping and dining are two of Nice’s claims to fame. Rue Jean Medecin has all the big name international brands, as well as a swish shopping centre. And within the vaunted Carre d’Or you’ll encounter high-end boutiques and fashion houses. This part of the city is also where many of the best restaurants, bars and cafes are located.

-Nice culture. This city has some superb art museums, which are partly the upshot of the trend for artists to relocate to the south of France. There are attractions devoted to Matisse, Chagall, as well as a museum for contemporary art, displaying works by Warhol and Lichtenstein. Nice’s old town is also worth a wander – the warren of narrow streets and tall, pastel-coloured houses make it very picturesque.

Weather in Aspremont

Aspremont gets classic Mediterranean weather, with long, warm and dry summers, and moderate winters. There’s weather for the beach from May through September, with daytime temperatures that peak between 24 and 30 degrees during this period. Early-summer is a great time to be at an Aspremont apartment, when there’s loads of sunshine, but the nights are a little cooler than in July and August. Winters normally have mild weather here – an average December day sees highs of 13 degrees, and lows of six degrees at night.

Travel to Aspremont

Nice Airport (NCE) is the easiest way to reach Aspremont holiday accommodation from Britain. This airport is about half an hour by car from the commune, and is one of France’s top three destinations in terms of air traffic. There are plenty of services from the UK to Nice throughout the year. By car you can take the A8 from the airport, before joining the M14 at Le Ray. For an alternative, Nice has high-speed TGV connections to Paris, as well as regional rail links to other southern cities.
