Ars is a small, picturesque settlement in a rural area in the west of France. An Ars holiday villa puts you in the heart of wine making country and will provide you a perfect and comfortable base. All Ars holiday villas from HomeAway are furnished with the everyday necessities and some even come with luxury extras like a pool. The area may be rural, which is perfect for those that want to totally relax, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t things to do for those that want to venture out and experience something different.
Ars is a little gem. It has the perfect ambience you associate with a traditional village in a wine-making area, nestled among vineyards and rolling agricultural farmland. The River Charente irrigates the valley making it green and charming, whilst beyond Ars, there are plenty of cultural and historical attractions and outdoor activities.
-Cognac is a town just begging to be visited. It’s only a short drive, being about 7kms from most holiday villas in Ars. Many of the Cognac Houses, such as Martell and Remy Martin, offer tours around their distilleries with tastings included. Even if Cognac is not your drink of choice you will still find the tour fascinating.
-Pons is a delightful town which boasts its own mediaeval keep. There is also a pilgrim’s hospital dating back to 1160 which is open to tour. While visiting the town make time for the twice weekly market selling a variety of local products and grab yourself some nice fresh food to take back to your Ars holiday villa to prepare.
-Golf is popular in this little corner of France. Within an easy driving distance there are three golf courses, the Golf du Cognac, the Golf de Saintonge and the Golf de Royan. Each golf course has buggies and clubs for hire so the only decision to make is which one to visit, or you could just visit them all.
-Les Antilles de Jonzac is a great family day out and about 40 minutes drive away from Ars. This water park, one of Europe’s largest, has a multitude of activities from water slides to a fitness centre. If you should get a day with bad weather a visit here is perfect as it is fully enclosed. You can lounge on the artificial beaches each with its own palm trees and completely forget about the weather.
-The Roman Ruins in the town of Saintes make another great day trip to take from Ars. Touring the roman amphitheatre, the oldest and largest in France, can take you back in time when gladiators fought for the crowds pleasure.
Temperatures in Ars can range from 3°C in winter up to 26°C in summer around July and August. Although the area is not as hot as the south of France the summers are still pleasant. Rainfall is also light during summer. Winters tend to be quite cold with a good chance of snow and frosts. If you choose a holiday home in Ars in late spring or early autumn you will still get very summer-like weather.
