Lofou is a sleepy village surrounded by forests situated at the foot of the Troodos Mountains. This once derelict village has been rejuvenated but still remains mainly untouched by tourism and provides visitors with a taste of the “Real Cyprus”. Many of the old buildings have been renovated into luxurious houses for holiday-makers to enjoy. Any of the Lofou houses are the perfect base to enjoy some wonderful outdoor activities whilst providing peace and tranquillity away from the throng of the main tourist areas of the island.
Ask anyone who has stayed at a Lofou house what there is to do and they will say that it is a great place for walking and trekking. There are several trails that start and end in the village; along the way you can enjoy stunning mountain views as well as taking in the some traditional and rustic Cypriot villages. If you are walking, cycling or hiking through the mountains that surround the village, you will also come across many small vineyards that are waiting to be explored. Bird watching, photography and horse riding are also popular activities that can be enjoyed in the immediate area of the village. Within the village are several things to enjoy including an old olive mill, a beautiful cave and a church, complete with ecclesiastical artefacts.
Heading north from your Lofou house, you will find yourself in the heart of the Troodos Mountains. There are several traditional villages situated here including Agros, Pelendri, Galata, Omodos and Malia to be enjoyed with many of them having traditional wine-making vineyards. The Troodos Mountains also offer a ski resort where visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and skating. When visiting the island, visitors can have the best of both worlds!
