Starigrad is a pretty Dalmatian town in Croatia lying along a deep fjord just north of Zadar on the Paklenica Riviera. Many of the traditional homes have been converted into comfortable holiday homes in Starigrad-Paklenica for tourists. The lively town sits at the foot of Mount Makarska and has a long beach, cafés, restaurants and bars.

This historic city is well worth visiting, just 2 hours drive down the coast. The historic centre is built within the walls of the Roman palace, created for the Emperor Diocletian and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St Duje’s Cathedral dates back to 305AD. For a more modern side to the city, stroll along the palm-lined Riva city promenade.
The nearby city of Zadar is built around the remains of a Roman Forum and still has the Roman roads laid out. The town has 16th century walls with towers and lovely local churches such as the Church of St Donat, numerous inns, beautiful beaches and some unique historic monuments. Zadar is famous for its “sea organ” as when the waves hit underwater caverns they make deep musical sounds.
Starigrad enjoys pleasant summer weather with temperatures averaging 28°C (83°F) in July and August. Spring and autumn are also very pleasant seasons to visit Croatia with slightly more rainfall after September. Winters are mild with daytime highs around 11°C (52°F).
