There is so much to do in the ancient village of Podstrana on the west coast of Croatia. Situated by the Adriatic Sea, holidaymakers will find lots of sport and recreation here and it is ideally located near to many other attractions. Podstrana has some pebble beaches where holidaymakers can sit and soak up the sun and swim in the Adriatic Sea and sandy beaches are located nearby too. There are various water sports available such as fishing, sailing, water polo, diving amongst other things and there is even an indoor sea water swimming pool.Jogging tracks are available too and visitors can rent bicycles and ride around town. There are some lovely views to be seen from the promenade and around town for hikers to enjoy. Podstrana has many sporting and recreation facilities including tennis courts, swimming pool, a bowling alley and indoor football, handball, basketball and volleyball. Podstrana has a number of restaurants, traditional Croatian taverns, pizzerias, fast food restaurants and saloons. In the evenings visitors can find entertainment at the disco, night club, casino and cocktail bar. There are a few stores located here where self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and beverages as well as souvenir shops.
There are many interesting buildings in the ancient village of Podstrana including the Church of St Fabian at the top of the hill. Tourists can take organised trips to nearby islands and visit interesting museums in Orebic and Korcula. Alternatively there are excursions to the ancient pirate town of Omis, which is less than half an hour away or the Krka waterfalls.The city of Split is approximately 15 kilometres away and has many interesting ancient buildings dating back to Roman times. There are also several museums and galleries in Split such as the City Museum and Galerija.
Croatia enjoys a Mediterranean climate along the Adriatic coast during the summer with average high temperatures of 30 degrees centigrade in July and August. These are also the two driest months of the year when you might expect only one or two inches of rain per month. Visitors can expect an average of 11 hours sunshine each day between June and August. Temperatures in January and February can drop as low as five degrees centigrade, while November and December are the wettest months with an average of four to five inches of rain per month.
Podgora is approximately 30 minutes drive from Split Airport. Here Croatia Airlines operate flights to and from Dubrovnik, Frankfurt, London-Heathrow, London-Gatwick, Munich, Rome-Fiumicino and Zagreb as well as seasonal flights to Amsterdam, Brussels Düsseldorf, Lyons, Osijek, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Vienna and Zurich. Other airlines offer seasonal flights to numerous other European cities. Car rental companies offer services from Split Airport including Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget Dollar, National Sixt and Thrifty Eurocar. Taxis are located outside the building and a bus service runs from the airport to Postrana.
