Things to do
-Beaches: This is a great part of the island for beaches, and most of the ones close by are ideal for families. Fañabé, Pinta, La Troya, del Duque and Torviscas are served by a host of facilities. For those who want to relax there are several rows of sunbeds and sunshades, and people who want some excitement can choose from all kinds of watersports. HomeAway also has a choice of holiday accommodation in Alto Torviscas, not far from a lovely palm-edged bay.
-Family attractions: Siam Park is one of the top-rated days out on the island. It’s a water park, but a great deal of attention has been paid to the experience, as there are huge models of Thai-style temples, and imaginative slides and pools of all descriptions. Also popular is Aqualand, where there are flumes, slides and pools next to animal attractions like dolphin shows.
-Excursions: Adeje City has several historic buildings such as the Casa Fuerte, constructed in the 16th century to ward off attacks by pirates and corsairs. Costa Adeje is also the place to embark on a whale or dolphin watching cruise: the southwestern side of the island is next to an important migration route, and 31 different whale and dolphin species have been sighted in the waters right here.
-Outdoor activities: Guests who want to fill their holiday with as many activities as possible will be hard-pressed to cram in all the experiences that are available close by. There are horseback rides, hikes through volcanic ravines, three 18-hole courses and some world-class dive sites. Tenerife is rightly considered one of Europe’s diving capitals as there’s so much to see under the waves here, from shipwrecks to colonies of sea turtles.
-Natural sights: Holidaymakers with a car can set off to see the many wonders wrought by volcanic activity on Tenerife. Nowhere is the scenery more dramatic than El Teide National Park. The crowning glory here is a vast stratovolcano, 3,718 metres in height, which makes the summit Spain’s highest point. There’s a cable car running most of the way to the peak, but it’s worth remembering to wrap up as it gets very chilly this far up.
