Sofia City is the capital of Bulgaria. As such, it is home to a number of important attractions, museums and art galleries. Because of its high altitude, the temperatures in Sofia City are cooler in summer than in other parts of Bulgaria. This makes activities in the out of doors a bit more pleasant, particularly for those who do not like extreme heat.
During the summer months, the average high temperatures are between 23 and 26 degrees. In the spring, the average highs are between 15 and 20 degrees. The winter is quite chilly with average highs only reaching between 2 and 5 degrees.
Those travelling to Sofia City once had to choose a different airport as the Sofia Airport (SOF) was not very well serviced. This has changed thanks to renovations that have taken place over the last several years. Now, Sofia Airport is served by most major carriers. You can also travel by rail from some European locations. The Sofia Railway Station can be your final stop, although you may have to change cars at the Central Railway Station.
