Holidaymakers looking for a coastal vacation somewhere different from the well known European resorts might like to try Lozenets in Bulgaria. Located on the south-eastern side of the country on the Black Sea coast this village has plenty for visitors to enjoy. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, apartments and campsites.
Lozenets has its own long and beautiful beach for holidaymakers to soak up the summer sun and enjoy a swim in the Black Sea. With the backdrop of the Strandja Mountains there is plenty of gorgeous scenery for keen photographers to take pictures of and hikers to enjoy.
Holidaymakers can enjoy fishing here with various trips offered on the waters of the Black Sea and a lake nearby also offers angling opportunities. Water skiing, wind surfing, jet skiing, snorkelling, pedalo boats and other water based activities are available in and around Lozenets. Other activities offered just outside Lozenets include horse riding, bird watching and wildlife safaris.
The village has a few restaurants, bars and pubs specialising in fresh fish along with locally produced wine. In and around Lozenets visitors will find a wide range of shops and three brand new shopping centres where they can purchase many different souvenirs.
The Strandja Mountains in the southern part of the region of Burgas is the biggest natural park in Bulgaria and has an extremely rich natural collection of flora and fauna. Burgas has some interesting places to visit too such as the Archaeological Museum, the Open Air Theatre and the Sea Garden Sculpture Park.
Visitors may like to enjoy a day trip to one of the other resorts such as Sunny Beach, which is just a two hour drive from Lozenets. The ancient town of Nessebar is a town-museum which has kept the ruins of the old Roman town Mesemvria. Visitors can take a boat trip along the Ropotamo River and see the thick forest along its banks.
The weather in this part of Bulgaria is very warm between June and September when the average temperatures are around 25 degrees centigrade. In July average temperatures are as high as 30 degrees centigrade with up to 11 hours of sunshine per day. The winters on the east coast are milder than inland with temperatures as high as 10 degrees centigrade although it may feel cooler with the easterly winds from Russia. The annual rainfall is low and quite evenly distributed throughout the year.
Burgas International Airport is approximately an hour and 10 minutes drive from Lozenets and has flights to other Bulgarian cities as well as several major European cities such as Dublin, Cologne/Bonn, Copenhagen, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Cardiff, Glasgow International and London-Gatwick amongst others. There are taxi services outside the airport terminal as well as car rental firms.
