Santos is just a 70km (43 mile) trip from your holiday home in Litoral Norte. Once the largest maritime port in Latin America, it was founded as Sao Vicente in 1545. During the 19th century it boomed as the centre of coffee exports and its historical center has some interesting 19th century architecture. Similarly, the massive city of Sao Paulo has a bustling downtown with a mishmash of old architectuire and churches but it is not well presented to visitors. Modernists may appreciate the Higienopolis neighbourhood and Avenida Paulista with its collection of skyscrapers. Another nearby place to visit around Sao Paulo is Guaruja. It can be very congested, as the beaches north of Sao Sebastiao are renowned. The island paradise of Ilhabela, which is popular with snorkelers and divers, is just a short boat ride away.

It has two terminals and is sometimes referred to as Guarulhos Airport. The more congested Congonhas (CGH) Airport is to the south of the city and is used mainly for domestic flights. From the main airport there is a 15-25km journey to your holiday rental which can be travelled by taxi, bus or hire car.
