The best beach in Ceará is at Jerricoacoara, or Jeri for short. Named as one of the world’s top 10 beaches it is the perfect place to sunbathe, swim and enjoy the natural beauty of Brazil’s coast. However it is a 7-hour bus ride or a small plane hop from Fortaleza. The city beaches around Fortaleza are more convenient and very good, lined with crafts shops, bars and restaurants for dining and enjoying cocktails as the sun goes down. Swimming, surfing and watersports can all be enjoyed in this lively vacation hotspot. This area of Ceará is also very popular for its festivals, which are well worth seeking out from your Ceará holiday villa. The locals love to parade and party on the streets. Carnival in February sees all kinds of street entertainment. The annual sailing regatta in July and the Festa de Iemanja in August are the main annual highlights of Fortaleza. The area known as the Drago de Mar offers plenty of bars and a lively nightlife. Shopping for lacework, embroidery, leather goods and ceramics is a pleasant way to enjoy the local culture. For a break from the coastal heat, the hills offer forest hikes, caves for exploring and a cable car ride for some great views.

The port city of Fortaleza on the Paeju River has a historic fortress built in 1609 which gave the town its name. The city is a blend of old and new, with a Cathedral, Museum of Anthropology and a central Arts and Crafts Market. The Parque Nacional de Ubajara is an excellent day out to appreciate some of Brazil’s natural attractions and beauty. For beach lovers, it is worth heading out of town to the Praia de Iracema and the Praia do Futuro, both lovely beaches in the area.
