In the parish of St. Joseph there are some coastal places with white sand beaches making them ideal for sunbathing. Natural pools formed at Bathsheba beach make for good swimming areas. This coast is great for surfing as well and other parts of the island offer great fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing and diving.
Golf is very popular here and there are several courses on the island including the Sandy Lane Golf Club and the Barbados Golf Club. The island has some wonderful places for hikers, horse riders and cyclists to roam with some organised walking trips arranged free of charge. Cattlewash has a wonderful landscape for hikers and is an ideal place for beachcombing, while Hackleton’s Cliff offers amazing views of the eastern coastline.
The main town of the parish is Bathsheba where there are restaurants and bars as well as local rum shops. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks from local stores and Tent Bay has a fish market. The main shopping area of the island is in the capital, Bridgetown but souvenirs and gifts can be found at the Bathsheba Community Centre.
Places to visit on holiday to St. Joseph, Barbados
There are two notable botanic gardens in the parish well worth a visit, which are Flower Forest and Andromeda Gardens. A short trip to the capital Bridgetown offers plenty of history and interesting sites such as the Parliament Buildings.
Visitors will also find a few museums on the island such as Barbados Museum, Sir Frank Huston Sugar Museum or Arlington House Museum. There are some other very interesting historic buildings worth visiting on the island including Fisherpond House, Codrington College and Blackman’s Bridge.

The temperature on the island remains fairly constant throughout the year with an average daytime high of 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit. The dry season is January to June with tropical rainstorms sometimes in the hurricane season between June and October. However, the rain normally quickly passes to be followed by sunny weather again. Hurricanes normally avoid Barbados as well. Between January and March holidaymakers can expect approximately 10 hours of sunshine per day, but the rest of the year will not be much lower than this.
